Aromatherapy: A holistic Approch to Better Health
Most allopathic (traditional) medicine is aimed at treating illness for its symptoms or the suppression of the symptoms. Sometimes it may be necessary to use prescribed medication and still use Aromatherapy to keep you healthy. Aromtherapy uses a holistic approach and views the body as a "whole".
What is Aromatherapy?
It is the use of essential oils, (which are aromatic essences extracted from various plant parts; flowers. trees. fruits, bark or seeds) to promote health and well-being.
How does Aromatherapy work?
Essential oils have specific therapeutic, psychological and physiological properties, which improve and prevent illness. The biochemical composition of the oils stimulates our brains, affects our moods and well-being. Some have antiseptic properties, some are antiviral, anti-inflamatory, pain relieving, anti-depressant or expectorant. Other properties of the essential oils, which are taken advantage of in aromatherapy are their stimulation for relaxation, improving digestion and diuretic properties. You can use aromatherapy to recharge, rejuvenate, relax and soothe.
How is Aromatherapy Applied?
The 3 Most common ways are:
- Inhalation- via vapors, diffusers, baths or directly through the nose.
- Through the Skin- via massages, baths, lotions or directly to the skin
- Ingestion- which is usually in the form of herbal tea
